GREAT TULSA BLOG – BARTCOP

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

This is just a brief note to let you know that I think Bartcop is a great blog. I don’t agree with everything he writes, but he doesn’t mince words. And I share his opionion that our Democratic representatives seem to be lacking in spine, guts or balls. I’ve listed his site on my blogroll; take a look. And while you are there also take a look at the Log Cabin Chronicles and at the Margaret and Helen site. All of those bloggers have been around long enough to know what they are talking about.

IS GOD ON THE JOB?

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

A few years ago Tulsa had a big brouhaha when a young girl as accused of practicing witchcraft – she reportedly wore a wiccan tee shirt to school.

Now, we have a new problem – Freethinkers! A coffee shop in Ponca City has been hosting a discussion group of, God forbid, atheists, non-believers and even liberal Christians.  According to a report in the Tulsa World it has had a fearsome effect on the small town – threatening phone calls, public ridicule and a general discord. It seems as if God is not paying attention or has just decided it’s not worth his/her/it’s time.

IGNORANCE AS STATE POLICY

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

The news this week supports my contention that ignorance collects in large groups in Oklahoma. Early in the week ,  public schools in Tulsa and Oklahoma City (our two largest cities) were placed on probation. Today we learned that Oklahoma spends less than the national average on each student; more than $2,200 less. We spend less than any of the surrounding states; even poor Arkansas spends more on their students. Hell, we are even behind Mississippi. Maybe our children would do better if they were exposed to a bit more education and a bit less religion and football.

Don’t blame it on the teachers – we have some damned good teachers. Some of our best are working for better salaries in Texas, Arkansas, Missouri or Kansas. Our poiticians are obviously products of our flawed eduational system. English only laws, marble monuments to the Ten Commandments, campaigns against gays and lesbians, expanding toll roads, etc.;  stop pandering for votes and start thinking about those who will someday be called upon to rescue us from disaster.

BLUE DOG BASTARDS

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

This is just a brief note to express my feelings about Blue Dogs. The only thing worse that a Republican politician is a Democrat who acts like one. My own so called representative, Dan Boren, is one. His snark against our President and his lack of support for mainline Democrats in Congress has insured that I will never vote for another Oklahoma Democrat. I just changed my registration to independent because I am so pissed off at spineless Democrats. Christ, even the Republicans don’t claim to represent average Americans anymore.
